Sonya Cohen & Lakeshore Speech Communication Therapy
Lakeshore Speech was founded by Sonya Cohen, MA-CCC, SLP to provide quality speech, language and swallowing therapy services to adults and children of all ages. Sonya Cohen a licensed and certified Speech Language Pathologist, providing services for a variety of communication and swallowing/feeding disorders in Highland Park, Deerfield, Glencoe, Lake Forest, Highwood and surrounding Illinois areas.
Sonya Cohen brings 12+ years of clinical experience (view resume) as an adult and pediatric Speech Language Pathologist to each patient's unique situation. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois Champaign (1999); and her Masters Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Northwestern University, (2001).
Since then, Sonya has worked in a variety of hospital, school, clinic, rehab, daycare and home settings in and around Chicagoland. Special areas of expertise include dysphagia (swallowing/feeding disorders), fluency (stuttering), early intervention for children with global delays, autism spectrum disorders, auditory processing, apraxia, aphasia, dysarthria, as well as elementary articulation and language skills delays.
In addition, Sonya specializes in working with clients who have suffered stokes and/or traumatic brain injuries, with an emphasis on restoring both, communication and cognitive skills for rapid community reintegration.
Sonya has also developed a highly effective accent reduction program for non-native English speakers.

Sonya holds a Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology and is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She obtained her Illinois license for Speech-Language Pathology from the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Lakeshore Speech is a highly rated member on Angie's List, Yelp!, and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.
